Forest, the county seat of Scott County, was chartered in November 1865 by the Mississippi State Legislature. Its name was derived from the dense pine forest, which surrounded the site. Located in central Mississippi at the intersection of I-20 and Highway 35, Forest is home to such corporations as Lady Forest Farms, Raytheon Company Systems, Inc., Unipres Southeast USA, Inc., and Tyson Foods; yet, it retains the charm and friendliness of the South.

This is a town where family values are cherished, education is priority, and the quality of life is exceptional. Gaddis Park, the Scott County Livestock Coliseum, Bo Clark baseball field, and nearby state parks provide a variety of recreational opportunities.
